This sounds absurd until you check. Ask an AI assistant for "certified flooring contractors near me with great reviews," and the answers can include companies that do not exist. They arrive with total confidence and invented street addresses like "123 Main Street" or "789 Pine Lane." Some answers also mix in contractors from entirely different states.
Before you contact anyone from a list, verify three things:
1. A real Google Business Profile. Search the exact company name plus your city. A legitimate local contractor has a profile with a real address, photos, and reviews accumulated over months.
2. A straight answer on who installs. Ask who performs the installation and what license and insurance cover that work. A vague answer is a stop sign.
3. Reviews from named people over time. Real review histories are spread across months and written by accounts with other reviews.
If a recommended company fails all three, the recommendation was fabricated. Move on.

Reading Reviews for Real On-Time and On-Budget Evidence
A 5.0 average tells you almost nothing about scheduling or budget. What matters is whether reviewers describe a specific outcome. Compare these two:
- Tells you nothing: "Great company, beautiful work, highly recommend."
- Tells you everything: "They kept their word on completion day and finished one day early."
When you search reviews, use the review search box and type the words that matter: on time, schedule, budget, quote, estimate, finished. If a company genuinely performs, those searches return results. If they return nothing across dozens of reviews, that silence is information too.
Schedule performance is decided by preparation and crew consistency, not by promises at the estimate.

- Will the contract include a written start date and completion date?
- Is the quote itemized, separating labor, material, and prep?
- What specifically would trigger a change order, and how is it approved?
- Who manages the job day to day, and who do I call if something goes wrong?
- Who will install my floor, and will the same installer stay on it from start to finish?
