Flooring in Arizona has to handle heat, strong sun and a concrete slab. UV through large south-facing windows can fade materials that perform fine in cooler climates. RDC both sells and installs luxury vinyl plank under one roof. See more on LVP flooring installation in Phoenix.

At RDC, we install floors across the Valley and we know which materials hold up and which ones don't. We'll tell you honestly what works for your situation. Maybe it's a 1970s ranch in central Phoenix or a new build in Gilbert, or a Scottsdale vacation home that bakes all summer.

Flooring Types RDC Installs in Arizona
RDC installs LVP, porcelain and ceramic tile, natural stone, engineered and solid hardwood, laminate and carpet in Arizona homes. For Phoenix heat and concrete slabs, RDC recommends LVP or porcelain tile, engineered hardwood for real wood, and carpet where softness matters, usually bedrooms. LVP, the floor RDC installs most, runs $4 to $9 per square foot installed.
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) for Arizona Homes
LVP is the floor RDC installs most in Phoenix homes. Rigid-core LVP sold as waterproof by its manufacturer is comfortable underfoot. It comes in wood and stone looks at a fraction of the cost of hardwood.
In hot, sunny rooms RDC installs it with the expansion gap the manufacturer specifies. See our full guide to LVP sales and installation in Phoenix for brands and installation methods. Also see how much LVP flooring costs in Arizona, or compare LVP vs laminate and LVT.
- Installed with the manufacturer's expansion gap for Arizona heat
- Waterproof-rated rigid core, great for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms
- Pet, kid, and Arizona dust-friendly
- Warmer and softer underfoot than tile
- Wide variety of wood and stone looks
- Fast installation, often completed in a single day
- LVP on stairs: $100-$185 per step, including removal of the old carpet, installation and the stair nose (final price after measuring)
Porcelain & Ceramic Tile, Arizona's Classic Choice
Porcelain and ceramic tile stay cool underfoot and hold up to water and daily traffic. RDC installs tile with straight lines, tight joints and even grout, including large-format tile 24x48 and larger.
- Cool underfoot in Arizona summers
- Porcelain and ceramic in all sizes and styles
- Large-format tile (24x48 and larger)
- Diagonal, herringbone, and custom patterns
- Pool deck, patio, and outdoor tile installation
- Travertine and natural stone tile
Hardwood & Engineered Wood
Solid hardwood can work in climate-controlled Arizona rooms, but RDC recommends engineered hardwood for slab homes in the Valley. Engineered boards are made for installation over concrete, and the National Wood Flooring Association's guidance does not recommend gluing solid hardwood straight to a slab. We help you decide based on your rooms, AC habits and sun exposure.
- Engineered hardwood, built for installation over a concrete slab
- Solid hardwood for climate-controlled rooms
- Oak, hickory, maple, and more
- Nail-down, glue-down, and floating installation
- Refinishing existing hardwood as part of a larger flooring project
Carpet, Bedrooms & Bonus Rooms
In the Arizona homes RDC works in, carpet usually goes in bedrooms and bonus rooms, where comfort matters more than durability. It adds softness and sound insulation that hard surfaces can't match. We carry stain-resistant and low-pile options, which are easier to keep clean of desert dust.
- Low-pile and stain-resistant options for AZ dust
- Plush, berber, and frieze styles
- Premium padding for added comfort and insulation
- Carpet on stairs and hallways
Why Subfloor Prep Matters More in Arizona
Subfloor prep matters more in Arizona because most homes RDC works on in the Valley sit on a concrete slab with no basement. Before any floor goes down, RDC checks the slab for moisture and flatness. We test moisture with the method the flooring manufacturer specifies (ASTM F2170 or F1869), then grind high spots and fill low areas.
Flatness has a number. Mohawk's SolidTech LVP instructions say any unevenness greater than 3/16 inch in a 10-foot radius must be leveled. This step keeps a new floor from lifting, cracking or gapping in its first years.
The slab moisture testing and floor leveling guide explains both steps and what they add to a quote. Installed prices for every floor, including whole-house totals, are on the flooring installation cost guide for Phoenix.

What Does Flooring Installation Include?
At RDC in Phoenix, flooring installation includes moving your furniture and appliances out of the way and back, and pulling and resetting toilets. The new floor goes in with a 1-year workmanship warranty. Old-floor removal ($3 to $5 per sq ft), slab leveling ($1 to $4) and baseboards are separate lines on the written estimate.
| Part of the job | On an RDC estimate | Price at RDC |
|---|---|---|
| Moving furniture and appliances out and back | Included | No separate line |
| Pulling and resetting toilets in bathrooms | Included | No separate line |
| The new floor: plank and installation | Main lines | Per sq ft: LVP $4 to $9, tile $7 to $18, engineered hardwood $8 to $16, carpet $3 to $7 with pad |
| Removing and disposing of the old floor | Separate line | $3 to $5 per sq ft |
| Slab grinding and leveling, where needed | Separate line | $1 to $4 per sq ft |
| Baseboards: reinstalled or new | Separate line | Priced after measuring |
| LVP on stairs | Separate line | $100 to $185 per step, including old carpet removal and the stair nose |
RDC removes the old carpet, LVP, laminate or tile as part of installing the new floor. Old tile comes out only when a new floor goes in, never as a standalone demolition job.
Furniture and appliances go back once the floor is down. Mohawk's SolidTech guidance says heavy furniture should always be lifted, never dragged, with felt pads under the legs.
Baseboards are their own line because there are two ways to finish the walls: reinstall the old boards or put in new ones. The same Mohawk instructions recommend removing the existing base trim and installing new moldings after the floor is complete. The base is fastened to the wall, never to the floor, so the plank can expand.
Worked example at RDC prices: replacing 1,000 sq ft of old tile with LVP. Removal is 1,000 x $3 to $5 = $3,000 to $5,000. The LVP, installed, is 1,000 x $4 to $9 = $4,000 to $9,000. That makes $7,000 to $14,000 before leveling.
If the whole slab needed leveling, add 1,000 x $1 to $4 = $1,000 to $4,000, for a total of $8,000 to $18,000. Furniture moving and toilets add nothing, and baseboards are quoted after measuring. Final pricing is set individually for each customer after the free in-home measure. Call or text (602) 788-1446 to book it.

Flooring Installation in Phoenix and North Phoenix
Phoenix is where RDC's showroom is, on Bell Rd in north Phoenix. The median Phoenix home was built in 1985, and 49% were built from 1970 to 1999 (U.S. Census ACS 2020-2024). In homes that age, the old floor and the slab shape the quote, so RDC looks at the floor and slab at the free in-home visit.
Phoenix tap water is hard. The City of Phoenix Water Services Department's 2025 water quality report lists total hardness of 10 to 17.6 grains per gallon. On tile floors, RDC chooses the grout for each area, cement-based, sealed or epoxy, with the hard water in mind.
