Tile Installation in Peoria, AZ
Tile installation in Peoria, AZ, at RDC Renovation & Design Concepts covers floors, showers and backsplash at $7 to $18 per square foot installed. RDC sells the tile at its Bell Rd showroom in North Phoenix and installs it on one contract. The job changes with the age of the house, so RDC checks the slab before it quotes.
If the house still has its original tile, the job starts with removing it and grinding the slab flat. Tile removal takes 1 to 4 days, and RDC removes old tile only together with a new installation. In a recent build whose slab tests flat and dry, the job can be mostly a material upgrade. The full service is on our tile installation in Phoenix page.

Arizona and Phoenix Conditions That Carry Into Peoria
Peoria has hard water, like the rest of the Phoenix area. City of Phoenix water measures 10 to 17.6 grains per gallon (2025 Water Quality Report). Peoria's two treatment plants average 13 and 17 grains. RDC serves Peoria from the Bell Rd showroom in North Phoenix, the same base as its Phoenix flooring and remodeling work.
Peoria's housing is younger than Phoenix's. The median home in Peoria was built in 1999, against 1985 in Phoenix (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024, table B25035). In Peoria, 18% of homes date from the 1980s, 25% from the 1990s and 27% from the 2000s (table B25034).
How Much Does Tile Installation Cost in Peoria, AZ?
Tile installation in Peoria costs $7 to $18 per square foot installed at RDC Renovation & Design Concepts. Ceramic runs $7 to $14, porcelain $9 to $18 and large-format tile (24x48 inches and larger) $12 to $22. Removing old tile adds $3 to $5 per square foot. Final pricing is set individually for each customer based on their specific project.
| Tile work in Peoria | Installed at RDC | What moves the number |
|---|---|---|
| Ceramic tile | $7 to $14 per sq ft | Tile size, pattern and room shape |
| Porcelain tile | $9 to $18 per sq ft | Tile choice and how many cuts the layout needs |
| Large-format tile, 24x48 and larger | $12 to $22 per sq ft | Slab flatness, since big tiles need a flatter floor |
| Natural stone and travertine | $12 to $25 per sq ft | Stone grade and sealing |
| Old floor removal (with a new floor only) | $3 to $5 per sq ft | What is coming up and what is under it |
| Slab prep and leveling | $1 to $4 per sq ft | How far the slab is out of flat |
Worked example: a 500 sq ft porcelain floor at $9 to $18 per square foot comes to $4,500 to $9,000. If old tile comes up first, removal adds $1,500 to $2,500 (500 × $3 to $5). That puts the floor at $6,000 to $11,500 before any leveling, which gets its own line after the slab is checked. A diagonal or herringbone pattern adds 10% to 20% to the labor.
See tile removal and replacement in Phoenix for the removal steps. Whole-house totals for every material are on our flooring installation cost guide.

Walk-In Shower in Peoria
A walk-in shower in Peoria at RDC replaces a tub or a high-curb shower with one tiled shower and an easy entry. A custom tiled tub-to-shower conversion runs $9,000 to $14,000. In RDC's Peoria work, lowering the shower step or curb is the most common request. A curbless entry usually costs about $3,000 more, depending on the existing floor and drain.
Construction takes 5 to 8 working days, plus 2 to 3 if the drain moves. The glass is measured after the tile is set and goes in about a week later. Licensed plumbing partners move the drain and valve, and blocking for grab bars goes in while the studs are open.
Every shower is built on a bonded waterproofing membrane (Schluter KERDI or RedGard). Layouts, glass and curbless options are on our walk-in shower installation in Phoenix page. Conversion layouts and timing are on the tub-to-shower conversion page.

Does Peoria, AZ Have Hard Water?
Yes, Peoria, AZ has hard water from both city treatment plants. The City of Peoria reports that its Greenway Water Treatment Plant averages 13 grains of hardness and Pyramid Peak averages 17. Groundwater wells run 2 to 8 grains. That is about 222 and 291 mg/L from the two plants, which the USGS classes as very hard.
Which water you get depends on where you live. The City of Peoria water FAQ says homes north of Bell Road get wells plus Pyramid Peak water, treated from the Colorado River. South of Bell Road it is wells plus Greenway water, from the Salt and Verde Rivers. The mix shifts by season, with more well water in summer.
In a shower, hard water shows up as white scale on grout and glass. RDC chooses the grout for each area of a Peoria shower, cement-based, sealed or epoxy, with the hard water in mind. Large wall tile leaves fewer grout lines to wipe down, and squeegeeing the glass after each shower keeps the film from building up. Our guide to hard water in Phoenix covers the wider Valley.
| Peoria | Phoenix | |
|---|---|---|
| Water hardness (city sources) | 13 gpg Greenway, 17 gpg Pyramid Peak, 2 to 8 gpg wells | 10 to 17.6 gpg (2025 report) |
| Median year a home was built (ACS 2020-2024) | 1999 | 1985 |
| Homes built 1970 to 1999 | 50% | 49% |
| Tub-to-shower conversion at RDC | $9,000 to $14,000 | $9,000 to $14,000 |

Showers for Active-Adult Homes in Peoria
Peoria includes active-adult communities such as Westbrook Village and Northpointe at Vistancia. If you plan to stay in the home for years, these are the shower changes worth planning now. None of them has to look clinical.
- Low-threshold and curbless showers. A curbless entry means sloping the floor in place, for example to a linear drain along one wall. The whole floor then falls in one plane.
- Blocking behind the tile for grab bars. Grab bars need solid backing installed before tiling. Adding it later means opening the wall again, so it is far simpler to put in during the remodel.
- Slip resistance that is measured, not guessed. Tile carries a published coefficient-of-friction rating. On a wet bathroom floor that number matters more than the finish does.
- Fewer grout lines. Large-format tile with tight joints is simply less to clean.
For the full scope and the published clearance dimensions, see our aging-in-place and accessible shower page.
Westbrook Village, Vistancia and the Rest of Peoria
The house, the water and the slab change across Peoria, so this is what RDC checks first before it quotes tile or a shower.
| Area | The setting | What RDC checks first |
|---|---|---|
| Westbrook Village | An active-adult and golf community with two 18-hole courses and more than 43 neighborhoods, from condominiums to golf course homes (Westbrook Village Association) | The shower step, grab-bar blocking and slip-resistant floor tile |
| Vistancia | A master-planned community whose areas include The Village, Blackstone, Trilogy, RidgeCrest and Northpointe, which offers 55+ living (vistancia.com) | Slab moisture and the step up from the existing tile |
| North of Bell Road | Wells plus Pyramid Peak water, about 17 grains of hardness at the plant | Grout and glass choices for the harder water |
| South of Bell Road | Wells plus Greenway water, about 13 grains at the plant | Original tile, slab flatness and grout choice |
The practical point: in an older house, the slab under the floor decides much of the price. In a newer one, the slab still gets a moisture test, and the conversation turns to material.
What a 1980s Peoria Home Needs Before New Tile or Flooring
A 1980s house on a concrete slab has had about forty years to move, so three checks happen before RDC quotes. Each one can change the price, and none is visible until the old floor comes up.
- Slab flatness. Large tile needs a slab within 1/8 inch over 10 feet (ANSI A108.02). Plank makers such as Shaw, COREtec and MSI ask for 3/16 inch over 10 feet. Grinding high spots and pouring self-leveling compound is part of the prep, not an upsell.
- Moisture. Concrete can hold moisture long after it is poured, so every slab is tested. RDC tests to ASTM standards before anything is installed.
- Testing what sits under the old floor. RDC does not remove asbestos. When a test comes back positive, a certified asbestos abatement contractor handles it first. RDC then removes the remaining floor and installs the new one.
For the floors through the rest of the house, see our page on the flooring contractor in Peoria. Slab tests and leveling are explained on the slab prep and moisture testing page.
